Now that you are a more advanced model flier, you should think about sitting the Silver Safety Schedule. The Silver is an indication that you are suitably qualified to both perform in front of the public and that you can assist novices to learn to fly. The Silver is often required as a minimum standard at fly-ins around the country and is always required at S.A.A. shows.
The major changes from the old Silver is that the whole schedule is flown as turnaround with the turnaround manouevres being judged as well as those on the centre. Although this makes the schedule look a lot more difficult, it has actually made it easier to remember what comes next as well as making it more "free-flowing"..
All the required manoeuvres for the Silver Safety Certificate are included in our Aerobatics Guide which can be downloaded from our Downloads page).
The "schedule" required is:
- Carry out pre-startup checks.
- Start engine.
- Carry out pre-take-off checks.
- Take off.
- Procedure Turn.
- Figure Eight.
- Half Cuban Eight.
- Two Loops.
- Immelman Turn.
- Bunt.
- Split S.
- Two Upwind Rolls.
- Stall Turn.
- Two Downwind Rolls.
- Immelman Turn.
- Three Turn Spin.
- Half Loop.
- Inverted Pass.
- Procedure Turn.
- Overshoot.
- Rectangular Circuit.
- Landing.
- Recover the model and return to the pits.
- You will then be asked five questions relating to the Safety Code (which should be second nature by now!).
Unlike the Bronze, you will be tested by two Examiners, at least one of whom will not be from your own Club. Since you're trying to impress the socks of these guys, there are a number of things you can do which will swing things in your favour.
