Step 10 - Slow Roll, Half Square Loop and One Turn Spin.

Fixed Wing Gold

If you've set up dual Aileron rates, go to the low rate.

The first part of this step is a Slow Roll which requires a good bit of practice! The roll starts well upwind, the model should be inverted as it passes in front of you and the roll finishes well downwind.

If you've used low Aileron rates, return to the high rate.

Execute the Half Square Loop by pulling up into a sharp 1/4 loop to the vertical, continue to near the topline and pull another sharp 1/4 loop to the horizontal - the same as the first 1/4 loop - then roll upright. You should use this manouevre to burn off a load of speed for the entry into the Spin which follows.

Slow the model down and cut the throttle so that it is at it's stalling point directly in front of you. By using elevator to maintain height, the model should be in a high angle of attack position and flying very slowly. You can increase throttle and decrease elevator to bring the model up to the centreline if it looks like it's going to drop a wing before you reach the centreline. When one of it's wing drops, use full rudder into the dropping wing (ie if the left wing drops, use left rudder) to enter the spin. Do not use ailerons to 'flick' into the spin. A correct spin is elevator and rudder only. Depending on the particular model you are flying, spin recovery will take a short amount of time in which the model will continue to spin. If the model takes a half spin to recover then release elevator and rudder after a half turn so that it recovers in the direction it entered the spin. Point the nose straight down and let the airspeed build up as you increase throttle and pull out gently to recover horizontally on the baseline.
