Self Starting Engine!

Here's a strange one.

I recently arrived at Barry, ready for an idyllic summer evening's flying. After getting all my gear out and set up, I fuelled up and primed the engine using my electric starter. (The side mounted Super Tigre engine is not very good at manual priming with this engine orientation.)

The engine burst into life.

Bearing in mind that the throttle was fully open for priming, the engine revs picked up rapidly. The glow starter was not attached to the plug nor had the engine been run since the previous day. I have never witnessed this before although I had heard rumours that self starting was possible.

I guess the lessons from this are to ensure that you always have the transmitter and receiver on when priming the engine and make sure you have a damn good grip of the model at all times!

The irony of this incident is that I had spent the previous three weeks struggling with engines (including this one) that wouldn't start.
