Check undercarriage.
- Check attachment to fuselage.
- Check that all screws fixed to the undercarriage or undercarriage clamps are tight.
- Where a "fixed" nosewheel is used, check that there is no slop in the mounting.
- Where a "steerable" nosewheel is used, check that the only free movement is that which allows the nose gear to rotate.
- Where a "fixed" tailwheel is used, check that there is no slop in the mounting.
- Where a "steerable" tailwheel is used, check that the only free movement is that which allows the tail gear to rotate.
- Check freedom of movement.
- Check that the wheels are free to rotate and that they do not snag on the undercarriage leg.
- Check that the wheel retaining mechanism - such as collets etc. - are fully tightened. A good permanent method for attaching the wheels is to solder washers to the inside and outside of the wheel.
- Check alignment.
- Check that the model runs "true" on the ground. This can best be achieved by pushing the model forward and seeing whether it veers to left or right. In the case of a model with a steerable nose or tailwheel, this should be checked with the rudder in it's neutral position.
- If the model has a wing mounted undercarriage, this test can be left until the wings have been mounted.
