Welcome to the Dundee Model Aircraft Club Basic Training Guide.

This is a brief outline of how we can help you to be a safe and proficient flier. These pages are not intended to replace any of the S.A.A. training guides but to complement them. There are a number of commom things you need to know, whether you are interested in fixed wing, helicopters or whatever and this section deals with those. Where the different disciplines of flying diverge, there are separate sections, accessible through the menus above.

What are the objectives of this training scheme?


  1. Safety will be your overriding concern.
  2. You will understand the restrictions placed on us by the Ministry Of Defence for both access to our flying field and the military's requirements relating to full size aircraft movements.
  3. You will understand the operation of frequency control used at our flying field.
  4. Meet your instructor/s.
  5. Your model aircraft will be suitable for safe flying.
  6. You will be able to fly a limited number of manoeuvres with the model under full control at all times with your instructor's assistance.
  7. You will learn to fly your model aircraft solo and in a confident way which is safe for yourself, other Club Members, military and civilian users.
  8. You will successfully pass the S.A.A. Bronze Safety Award.
  9. You will enjoy yourself as a safe flying member of D.M.A.C.
